Medical Museum Sketching

Last Saturday, I traveled to the National Museum of Health and Medicine for a sketching event featuring a talk with a medical illustrator and heart specimens on display to sketch. Brenda and I had gone a couple of weeks earlier to see the museum collection where I had made a few sketches. I wanted to try drawing on my iPad Pro with Apple Pencil to get a feel for sketching on the go using the Procrete app. I tried the graphite pencil brush for the drawings I made on the first visit. I refined the loose drawings later in a coffee shop while we waited to meet Alan for dinner.

I came back for the Sketching Hearts event eager to see the specimens up close and make more detailed paintings. I was able to spend more time on the human heart painting, but I could have worked more detail in that one. The other sketches of the Ostrich heart were looser and quickly created as I was running out of time.

I am looking forward to going back for more time sketching the collection. Brenda and I are planning to go the Mütter Museum again at some point where I hope to make similar sketches.
